After roaming the neighborhood for quite some time, a kitten realized it was time for a change when she showed up at a family’s doorstep one day.
A few months back, four kittens appeared on Ariel Heath’s doorstep, drinking water from a dog bowl, with their mother nowhere in sight. Ariel said that the moment they heard noises coming from the inside, they ran away from the property.
She had asked neighbors about the kittens but no one had any knowledge of where they are. In hopes that they would return, Ariel put out food several times. She said she never saw them but the food she’d put out would be gone within half an hour.
A few days later, the family heard some meowing coming from the outside. One of the litter members had decided to show up all by herself. Ariel describes her as skittish as she’d “run back if you moved too quickly”.
She put food on the fence once more and even meowed to the kitten, in an attempt to call her back. She was indeed back within minutes, alone with no siblings on sight.
Ariel sad that at first, the kitten was pretty wild and she would only eat the food if Ariel stood still. Soon after, the kitten began moving closer to the window, peeking in, letting the family know of her arrival.
Eventually however, Ariel managed to gain her trust and the kitten would eat right off Ariel’s hand.
Then they knew that she had become part of the family so they decided to adopt her and name her Billy, unaware that she was in fact a lady. Once taken to the vet, Billy got spayed, vaccinated, and dewormed. She was a very healthy girl, from having been outside almost all her life.
The kitten in time bonded with Ariel’s son and would wait for him to come from school so they could play together.
Billy didn’t feel comfortable being inside at first but the family’s rescued dog took her in and decided to be her cuddle buddy. Ariel said that the two had begun “having cuddle sessions of their own”.
Billy learned to live inside the house and even enjoy snuggles, nap time, and the litter box. Together with the dog, they would wait for the little boy to come from school every day.
Ariel said that they had never imagined they would be getting a cat; the kitten chose them. It was the thing they didn’t know they needed.
